Description: Bloed Street Mall (divided into two blocks-separate buildings) is located in the centre of Pretoria. It caters for commuters, hence the basement taxi rank. The target market consists of low/middle LSM black customers. The centre is more of a convenience mall than a place for leisure. The Bloed Street Mall entails the following: • Taxi ranks • Motor related facilities, i.e. tyre fitment centre, workshop, spares, etc. • Informal trader stores • 22 000m² retail shops The new “taxi-mall”, stretches between Bloed and Boom Streets and Andries and Prinsloo Streets in the city centre and facilitates smoother taxi and shopping services to residents. “The development comes after it was realised that the previous taxi rank on Bloed Street was inadequate. Commuters, taxi operators and traders alike had to deal with congestion and unsafe, often unsanitary, conditions,” said the city. There is now ample ablution facilities, overnight parking for taxis and on-site safety and emergency services and a fitment centre which assists taxi drivers with any repairs needed.
