Pick n Pay launches Rugby Super collectable cards

Local sports fans can once again feel part of the upcoming rugby tournament thanks to the launch of Pick n Pay’s new Rugby Super Cards.

Similar to the Cricket Super Cards, customers can collect 72 fun fact cards and will receive a pack of two Super Cards for every R150 spent in any Pick n Pay store, including Clothing stores.

They will be split between 36 Springbok men squad players, 24 Springbok women squad players and 12 ‘fan’ cards for the mascot, jerseys and stadiums.

“All eyes will be on the national Springbok rugby team this Saturday as they play their first game and we are excited to share in the excitement during the tournament. Rugby is a big part of the country’s culture and the energy in store from supporters has been great,” said John Bradshaw, retail executive for marketing at Pick n Pay.

He adds that they have once again included the women’s national team in the card collection. “Collectors really liked learning about the women players during the last Super Card campaign.”

Fans can buy an interactive collectors’ album to store the 72 Super Cards. All profits from these sales will go to Grass Roots Rugby to help train future South African rugby heroes.

The album also includes rugby tips, tricks and games. In May Pick n Pay offered its customers Cricket Super Cards. While South Africa may not have performed as well as supporters had hoped, Bradshaw says that customers enjoyed collecting all their favourite player cards and learning more about each player.

“We had card swop days at stores and many customers joined to complete their album and share their common passion for one of the country’s favourite sports. It was great to see so many children admiring and talking about their sport role models – both women and men players.”

Swap days for the rugby cards will take place every Saturday in all stores. “We love seeing customers come together and we hope the super cards create extra hype for our national rugby teams.”

The Rugby Super Cards are in all Pick n Pay and Clothing stores and will be available until 20 October 2019.
