Top 5 Black Friday tips to help you when you shop

There's a little over two weeks to go until Black Friday which will be happening on the 26th of November 2021.

Black Friday is traditionally the day after Thanksgiving in the USA, but for the past few years has been celebrated here in South Africa and other parts of the world.

Black Friday can lead to a lot of over-spending as one can get very tempted with all the deals that are shown by the different retailers but the best way to stay on track is to plan ahead.

Here are five tips that can help you if you're planning to shop this Black Friday:

1. Create a budget

Creating a budget is a good idea but you also need to make sure you stick to it.  It’s really easy to get caught up in the excitement and overspend. Decide ahead of time how much you want to spend for Black Friday shopping, and do your best to resist impulse buying.

2. Create a shopping list

Prioritise your must-have items, but remember to add more in case some items are already sold out by the time you reach the front of the queue.

3. Sign up for newsletters

Take advantage of sign-up promotions and stay in the loop with exclusive Black Friday deal alerts. For example, the Guzzle has a  newsletter that customers can sign up for so that they can get the latest catalogues and deals to all their favourite retailers such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Game, Makro and more.

4. Make wishlists

Timing is everything on Black Friday. Great deals sell out fast so you need to act quickly. To avoid wasting time searching for the items you are after, create a wishlist online before Black Friday so that all the items you want are in one place.

Most retailers allow customers to create wishlists on their online store.

5. Use loyalty programs

Another way to save money or get extra discounts is to use your store loyalty cards. Usually, stores will grant members early access to sales and promotions, then let them earn rewards on what they buy.

One should also keep in mind that Black Friday deals have been made available since the beginning of November, so the sooner you start to prep, the better your chances of getting a good deal.
