This is what SA retailers are doing for Black Friday 2020
Black Friday 2020 is set to take place on the 27th of November in-line with US tradition, However, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic during 2020 and the challenges that consumers had to face because of this, many retailers in South Africa plan to launch their Black Friday sales early and extend promotions through the whole of November.
Stores are also encouraging their customers to shop online and will sometimes offer exclusive to online shoppers.
We here at Guzzle have compiled a list of all the retailers that will be doing Black Friday sales to help consumers find the best deals.
List of retailers and their plans for Black Friday 2020:
1. Makro Black Friday Sale
The Makro Black Friday sale starts on the 2nd of November to the 29th November 2020, making it a four-week long event. The promotions will be available both in-store and online.
The promotion will add 50 new deals each week. Delivery fees will also be capped at R90, except for extended range items and commercial orders.
Makro will also offer free locker delivery on certain orders, along with same-day delivery for grocery orders through One Cart.
2. Takelot Black Friday Sale: Blue Dot Sale for 2020
Online retailer Takealot.com announced that it will also be extending its Black Friday promotions throughout the whole month.
Takealot’s annual promotion called the Blue Dot Sale — and usually lasts five days. This year, the promotion will take place from 2 November until 2 December 2020.
Takealot will launch themed sales in each week of the promotion:
- Week one of the promotion (2 – 8 November 2020) will focus on large items such as appliances, televisions, outdoor furniture, and more.
- Week two, from 9 – 15 November 2020, will focus on laptops, toys, homeware, furniture, fashion, sports, and footwear.
- Meanwhile, week three (16- 22 November 2020) will focus on camping, home improvement and power tools, and household essentials.
When it comes to the Black Friday week of 23-26 November 2020, 200 new deals will be added each day on the Takealot app.
On 27 November 2020, the official Black Friday portion of the sale begins with over 5000 deals and then it will extend until the 1st of December 2020.
3. Woolworths
Woolworths has confirmed that it will be offering promotions for Black Friday on items such as Fashion, Beauty, Home and Food across stores, online and its app.
A spokesperson said that Woolworths plans to have strict social distancing protocols in stores for employees and customers, including limiting the number of people allowed into the store at one time.
“We encourage our customers to shop online and have their purchases delivered to their homes.
“We will have a strong online offering and we’re currently scaling our operations in preparation for the rush, for example, we’re adding more pickers, couriers and slots, to make ensure that you can shop all your favourite items online.”
4. Pick n Pay
Pick n Pay announced that it will be doing Black Friday deals over a two-week period to avoid overcrowding its stores.
All deals will also be available online through its app, and customers will be able to either purchase these products digitally or view the pricing for products before purchasing them in-store. There will also be some online-only deals as Pick n Pay wishes to encourage customers to shop online.
5. Mr Price and Mr Price Home
Mr Price Home will be running its Black Friday deals from 27-29 November 2020. Customers will be able to get great deals in the categories of furniture, bed and bath, home decor, and kids and baby.
These deals will be available on mrpricehome.com, on the Mr Price app, and at all Mr Price Home stores. There will be additional deals for Cyber Monday – which will span 30 November until 1 December 2020.
Mr Price stated that it will have specials between the 23rd - 27th of November 2020 for men, ladies and kids fashion items.
So it will be having 5 days of major savings for the whole family this Black Friday online and in-store on Black Friday 27 November 2020 to shop even more deals of the year.
It noted that it will also have online-only Cyber deals which will end on the 3 December 2020.
6. Zando
Zando stated that it will start it's Black Friday deals from the 6th of November 2020.
The company will offer discounts of up to 70% on sneakers, jeans, dresses, and shoes with brands like Adidas, Sissy Boy, and Levi’s.
The online retailer said that this will include savings of up to 70% off top brands like:
- Adidas
- Puma
- New Balance
- Sissy Boy
It noted that there will be limited stock, so customers should set their alarms and get online or on their app as early as possible.
7. Dis-Chem
Dis-Chem will run a seven-day Black Friday campaign from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 November 2020 where big discounts will be offered.
Customers can look forward to specials online and in-store.
8. Incredible Connection
Incredible Connection is one of South Africa’s best-known computing and technology retail brands with a wide range of products.
The company has become a popular destination for special offers on tech products over Black Friday, and this year will be no different.
Incredible Connection is one of these companies and has named this year’s Black Friday sale “Black November”.
New deals will be added every week for in-store shoppers, and daily specials will be run on the Incredible Connection online store.
The company has launched its Black November week 1 deals, which include big price cuts on Huawei, Samsung, and Xiaomi smartphones.
9. Game
Game’s Black Friday promotions will run throughout November, with a new set of deals every week from 2 to 29 November 2020.
All deals will be available both online and in-store, and those who subscribe to the store’s newsletter will get early access to view all of Game’s Black Friday deals.
The retailer will also re-introduce its highly successful ‘1 Cent Price Surprise’, which was introduced for Black Friday in 2019 and was well received by Game shoppers.
This gives all Game customers making purchases online or in-store during the period of 2 - 29 November 2020 the chance to save even more on randomly-selected products, by paying only 1 cent at checkout.
The same Black Friday deals will be available both online and in-store and newsletter subscribers will have early viewing access to all Black Friday deals.
The retailer Game stores will not open at midnight as they did last year; rather they will follow operating hours of:
• Monday to Friday: 9 am - 6 pm
• Saturday: 9am - 5pm
• Sunday and Public Holidays: 9 am - 4 pm
10. Cash Converters
Cash Converters is one of South Africa’s best-known stores to buy and sell second-hand phones, computers, jewellery, cameras, and other products.
The retailer always provides its customers with excellent deals from a wide range of products on Black Friday 2020.
11. Cellucity
Cellucity is best known for its wide range of smartphones, gadgets, and cellular accessories and the company will also be offering great deals for Black Friday.
Last year, the company had big deals saving customers up to R3000 on smartphones and R9000 on laptops.
12. Superbalist
Superbalist announced that it will be having Black Friday specials between the 25th of November until the 30th of November.
The company stated that customers can look forward to a large variety of items as it has over 35,000 products, 400 brands, and more than 30 categories on its site.
Watch out for eye-catching discounts on men’s, women’s, and kids’ fashion, homeware, accessories, electronics, toys, gift cards and more.
13. Builders
Builders announced that it will be having five days of Black Friday specials for its customers.
Starting on the 23rd of November, the company will have deals run up until the 27th of November.
There will deals available in multiple categories such as Garden, Outdoor, Building Materials, Doors, Windows, Home, Decor, Paint and more.
14. The Foschini Group
The Foschini Group (TFG) announced that it will be having customers 21 days to shop great offers and deals this year for Black Friday across its multiple brands.
The company has twenty online sites, multiple brands and over 3 000 outlets from Fashion to Tech, Sports, Homeware, Jewellery and newcomer family value leader – Jet, plus TFG’s first and only online pure-play jewellery and accessories brand – Galaxy & Co., customers can enjoy shopping the biggest variety under one roof with one card and one checkout.
15. Topshop
Topshop announced that it will have Black Friday deals available for customers on the 27th of November.
The company noted that it is fully prepared and ready with all the best deals and offers finally hit online and in stores.
16. Kia Motors SA
Kia Motors announced that it will be having Black Friday deals, all day, every day in the month of November.
"Our Kia Black Friday is extended to every day this November. Weekly deals on selected Kia Models. Limited Stock available so check back every week to see what special deal is available on your favourite Kia Model," the company said in a statement.
The company has 21 dealership locations across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town, KIA Retail has Gauteng, Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal.
