To celebrate this momentous occasion and to seek consumerinput on all things retail, Guzzle conducted an open quiz with a winning prize.This quiz recorded 2504 entries.

The quiz provided some enlightening insights. Here is what came out:

  • 54% of the total South African audiences who participated in the quiz indicated that they use Guzzle as their main source of finding deals and promotions online. Google search came in second at 28%, social media was at 13%, and print catalogues/in-store came in the lowest at 5%.
                        
  • Consumers biggest deal breaker when it comes to online shopping are delivery costs. 41% of online shoppers responded that delivery costs and return policies could be a deal-breaker for them when choosing to purchase a product from an online store.
     
  • As evolved as online shopping has become, one of the biggest fears that still remains is being scammed online. 30% of respondents feared being scammed when shopping for products online.
     
  • 58% of shoppers stated that their favourite thing about Guzzle is the ability to compare prices across multiple retailers. Guzzle is one of South Africa’s leading and most reliable consumer informer site when it comes to retail shopping promotions and deals.
     
  • 34% stated that the Guzzle website and newsletters are their starting point before every shopping trip because of the broad product information and simplified user journey.
     
  • Retail catalogues were the favourites when it came to the category of catalogues that shoppers tended to engage with. Retailers such as Game, Food Lovers Market and Dis-chem were the favourites (65%). Electronic deals catalogues which is a niche market,recorded 14%.
     
  • When it came to actual spend, results revealed that most consumers spend most of their money on health and wellness and fashion and beauty category products. Health and wellness products recorded 41%, with fashion and beauty products coming in at 28%.
     
  • When it comes to shopping schedule, 54% indicated that they plan their budgets in advance before they get paid (the month before or a week before payday).Only 4% of shoppers budget at beginning of a new month. If these results are taken into consideration, retailers should already be promoting month-end and new month specials by mid-month.
     
  • The quiz results revealed that most shoppers shop on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays i.e. 38%) except if a weekend falls on pay day (8%).
     
  • Groceries and toiletries, as expected, came out tops at 67%, while gadgets in the current digital age were at 19%.Fashion and Beauty products came in at 9%.
     
  • Budgets are still the most classic way to plan a shopping trip. Shoppers best advice to help plan shopping trips better was,“make a list of all your important items before you go shopping” (39%),but strongly close to this was“you must use deal-finding websites, catalogues and price comparison tools” (32%) – showing that Guzzle is a strong tool for planning shopping.

The quiz responses above and the percentages recorded point to a dynamic and evolving retail shopping space. Guzzle has positioned itself as the ideal platform for retailers to reach shoppers through print and digital catalogues. Guzzle also provides an opportunity for shoppers to find great deals across the country from leading retailers.

It’s therefore not surprising that Guzzle website traffic stats between July 2021 - June 2022 show 6,622,646 users, 6,402,607 new users, 14,297,925 sessions, 2.16 sessions per user, page views are recorded at 107,002,023, pages per session 7.48, average session duration being 00:03:42 with the bounce rate at a minimal 13%.
