Gamers left exposed to hackers due to Origin bug

CAPE TOWN – Electronic Arts (EA) has reportedly experienced a security vulnerability on its PC gaming platform, Origin that allowed hackers to trick users of the service into opening and running malicious software on their system.
According to a report by TechCrunch, the bug only affected Origin’s Windows users, and it allowed hackers to use the popular online gaming platform’s own URL system to launch any app on victim's computer.
The report further stated that security researchers Daley Bee and Dominik Penner showed TechCrunch how through Origin’s URL system, hackers could run apps at the same privilege level as normal users.
An EA spokesperson John Reseburg told TechCrunch that a fix was released on Monday and the platform.
