McCain recalls green beans and Spar-brand frozen stir fry as it may have small glass pieces

McCain Foods South Africa has issued a voluntary product recall nationwide on certain bags of frozen sliced green beans and Spar-brand French stir fry.

The recall follows reports that small glass fragments had been detected in the food products. McCain noted that affected products had already been pulled from retailers' freezers and that buyers will have to examine the fine-print details of manufacturing to see if any in their home freezers are included.

If consumers are still in possession of one of these products are encouraged to take the product back to the store of purchase, and engage directly with the store manager who will take your details, after which, McCain will generate a voucher for you to replace your product.

"We have ascertained the source of the material, confirming it to be small glass fragments originating from a light fitting that has affected a limited batch of products only," McCain said in a statement.

"Stringent measures have been put in place to address the situation and a formal block has also been issued across our cold chain and our relevant networks, and all potentially impacted stock has been removed from retail shelves. In addition, retailers and foodservice customers have been formally notified of the current return procedures in place," the company added.

Consumers who are unsure of where to find the barcode or how to return the product can contact McCain's Customer Services team via email: consumer@mccain.co.za or call 0800 006498

McCain's foodservice customers can return products to their relevant distributors in exchange for a credit note.
