Samsung launches a new Galaxy Book S laptop

Samsung launched a new Galaxy Book S laptop at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn where it launched its new flagship phone – the Galaxy Note 10.

It’s a Windows-powered notebook that Samsung designed with the help of Microsoft and Qualcomm and according to the company, it is a device that empowers the next generation of mobile moguls.

Mobile division CEO, DJ Koh said in a statement: "At Samsung, we believe that true innovation is only possible through an open, collaborative approach where partners are aligned and motivated to break down barriers and redefine the computing experience. Galaxy Book S combines the best mobility features Samsung has to offer with Microsoft’s leading productivity solutions and Qualcomm Technologies’ performance capabilities to deliver the best mobile productivity experience available in a mobile device today."

The notebook is lightweight, weighing in at 0.96kg with 13.3’’ FHD TFT (16:9) display with a 10-point multi-touch screen.

Powering the new device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform, which features a 7-nanometer octa-core processor (2.84 GHz and 1.8GHz).

There’s also 8GB LPDDR4X RAM on offer, with a choice of 256GB or 512GB storage.

According to Samsung the device boasts 23 hours of battery life from the 42Wh unit onboard, supports LTE Cat.18 and a nano-SIM.

The company added that users will be able to charge the device battery with their Samsung Note 10 chargers, so there is no longer a need for a heavy laptop charger.

The Galaxy Book S is launching in the US in September, starting at $999 (RRP), but South African availability is yet to be announced.

Samsung SA stated that the Galaxy Book S might come next year to SA but it is still in discussions.
