Huawei launches new P50 Pro and P50 Pocket in South Africa

Huawei Mobile South Africa welcomed two new devices into South Africa with the launch of its P50 series.

This latest addition to the lineup features the Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket.

Here is a breakdown of the new devices:

The P50 Pro

The Huawei P50 Pro features a 3D True-Chroma 6.6-inch OLED curved glass display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and is 8.5mm slim, powered by a 4360mAh battery with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G processor.

The device features a punch hole in the front which houses the 13MP wide-angle selfie camera.

On the rear-end, the camera features what Huawei terms 'Dual Matrix' which features four high-powered lenses – a 50MP colour, 40MP monochrome, 64MP telephoto and 13MP ultra-wide-angle.

It also features 4K time-lapse functionality, as well as Cinemagraph, Night, Story Creator and Burst Shooting modes.

The Huawei P50 Pro also supports a 100x zoom with a total zoom range of up to 200x when used in conjunction with the wide-angle and periscope lens to help photograph any object at any distance.

The device will be made available in SA in the colours Cocoa Gold or Golden Black.

The P50 pocket

The Huawei P50 Pocket is the first folding phone that Huawei has officially launched in SA, This eye-catching smartphone is designed in collaboration with Dutch haute couture designer, Iris Van Herpen.

Herpen’s designs are a fusion of technology-infused elements in whimsical haute couture, which is evident in the HUAWEI P50 Pocket Premium Edition.

The Huawei P50 Pocket features a 6.9-inch UHD display when unfolded. The cover screen, which also doubles as a viewfinder for taking selfies when the phone is folded, as well as a second screen for app notifications such as messages, schedule, calendar, music, weather, and the camera, and is interactive. It can also be customised through a variety of themes.

Like the P50 Pro, a Snapdragon 888 4G processor is found on the inside of the device and comes with a 120Hz refresh rate.

It has a trio of lenses on offer – 40MP True Chroma, 32MP Spectrum and 13MP ultra-wide-angle.

The Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition fully supports the technology featured in the Huawei P50 Pro, including the True-Chroma image engine and HUAWEI XD Optics and one of its main features is the selfie camera, which uses selfie algorithms and a large camera sensor to boost low light performance.
