Apple launches iOS 13, See the new features coming to iPhone

CAPE TOWN - Apple at its annual  Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) announced all the new features coming to iOS 13.

According to Apple, the latest version of the company’s mobile operating system named iOS 13 has been given the following list of improvements:

  • Face unlock is 30% faster.
  • Apps will be 50% smaller to download.
  • App updates will be 60% smaller to download.
  • Apps will launch twice as faster

One big standout for iOS 13 was the focus on security as Apple has launched a new “Sign in with Apple” feature.

When signing into an app, users will get to select this feature instead of the usual “Login with Facebook or Google” options.

Apple’s sign-in feature allows users to sign into an app without their details being exposed or tracked.

Additionally, users will be given the option to hide their email address from apps when signing in, then a random email will be created to be used to sign a user in and will forward emails sent to this address to the user’s real email address.

Some of the updates to apps include:

  • HomeKit secure video:  Apple has added anew Secure Video mode for HomeKit that encrypts video footages locally before sending the information to icloud.

  • Messages –  A new profile option has been added so that users can add their name and a photo to their Messages profile so that new recipients can see who they are.

  • Photos –  Apple will be using machine learning that will remove duplicate photos and arrange photos in the photos app to create a new way to browse through your memories.

  • AirPods – when using AirPods, Siri will read messages to a user as soon as they are received, and the user will be able to reply via voice instruction.  The company added that it will work for third-party apps as well.

  • Safari - Safari has a new option which allows users to adjust text settings and set per-website preferences.
  • A  new Reminders app-  This new app has built-in intelligence that understands what you want to be reminded about and allows users to tag friends or family in their reminders and will receive notifications when in Messages to talk to the tagged individuals.

Dark mode

The new dark mode feature will allow users to set their device and supported apps to run with a black background and complementary colour schemes.

The iOS keyboard also supports dark mode, and the ability to swipe between letters when typing has been added.

Apple added that the developer preview of iOS 13 is available to Apple Developer Program members, However, a public beta will be available to iOS users later this month.

This new update will only be available for iPhone 6s and later.
