Apple won't launch its AirPower charging mat

CAPE TOWN – Apple has reportedly cancelled its AirPower wireless charging mat due to issues in achieving the company’s “high standards” for the product.

This is according to a report by TechCrunch, which states that the mat was meant to be designed to charge an Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods all at once and was mentioned during the company’s iPhone X event back in September 2017.

Apple SVP of hardware engineering Dan Riccio in a statement: “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward."

Numerous other reports such as by John Grube of Daring Fireball and Sonny Dickson suggested that the charging mat's main issue was that it was overheating and that the product was dubbed as an epic fail.
