Google to make Youtube Music its main focus

CAPE TOWN – Google is reportedly shutting down its Google Play Artist Hub at the end of the month.

This is according to a report by 9to5Google, which states that the platform is no longer accepting new signups, and will not let existing members upload or edit their music as of April 30th.

Google Play hub is a platform that allowed artists to upload and sell their music through the Google Play store and Google Play Music service.

According to an email sent to artists via 9to5Google, Google said in the email: “With the launch of YouTube Music last year, we eventually plan to replace Google Play Music with YouTube Music.”

The report further mentions that the company wants artists to register on Youtube music and recommended a list of YouTube partners to sell their music through the service.

Google further stated in the email: "At the end of this month, all existing songs and albums uploaded through the Google Play Artist Hub will “no longer appear in the Google Play Store or Google Play Music service (including the paid streaming and free radio service).”
