Lenovo shows off the first foldable PC ThinkPad prototype

CAPE TOWN – Lenovo announced that it has stepped into the folded race but not to launch a phone but what it claims to be the world’s first-ever foldable PC.

At its Accelerate conference in Florida, the company showed off its foldable ThinkPad X1 prototype with a 13.3-inch OLED 2K display which has been designed in collaboration with LG and can fold in half.

Lenovo said in a statement: "We all want access to a large comfortable screen even on the go, but travel can make this inconvenient or impossible. Never mind that remote work increased 140 percent from 2008 to 2016, with more and more employees taking time-sensitive, media-intensive projects with them everywhere."

The device is powered by an Intel processor and uses a Windows operating system and Lenovo did not provide any performance specifications for the prototype device.

"In the past, a 13.3-inch screen on a laptop demanded that the device stay at that same size footprint —not so with this single OLED 2K display made in collaboration with LG Display® that can fold in half and reduce its width by 50 percent."

Lenovo added that more details about the product will be revealed in 2020.
